My Journey Preparing For Security+

Andrew Fox - My Journey Preparing for Security+

In mid-January 2023, I plan on taking the CompTIA Security+ SY0-601 certification exam. Security+ is an entry-level cybersecurity certification that is a very popular certification for cybersecurity professionals. The exam has multiple-choice and performance-based questions, with a maximum of 90 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. The passing score for this certification is 750 (on a scale of 100-900). The exam covers a wide range of topics, which includes: Threats, Vulnerabilities, Implementations, Incident Response, and more.

How I am Preparing

I recently took an “Intro to Cybersecurity” course at my college, which covered and followed all of the topics that are included in the Security+ exam. I will be reviewing different material I obtained throughout that college course, along with multiple Udemy courses that go deeper into certain topics. I am also using online resources for practice questions, which is very important to go over (based on my experience taking the Cisco CCNA certification exam).

Conclusion

With the many resources I am using, I am hoping that I will be successful and pass the Security+ exam first try. This will be my second certification exam ever. Compared to my previous certification exam, I feel much more confident with the material covered, and I’m excited to test my knowledge. I will post my thoughts on the exam and share my experience of taking this exam at some point in late January.
